The Walnut Ridge National Tour was condensed to a single day for 2007. It would also be my first major event in Street Touring Ultra. A complete writeup is below.
For this event I recruited a co-driver: Jon Simmons, an experienced autocrosser out of Nebraska, who also happens to have won STX at Walnut Ridge the previous year. Our competition for the event was Arshad Mohabbat's STi (driven by him and Lynn Wilson) and Craig Wilcox's STX-prepped Mini Cooper S JCW (driven by Evolution instructors Andy Hohl and Tim Herron). The three morning runs had me leading, but with Tim and Jon both less than a tenth of a second behind me, and Arshad only a few tenths back. Close competition, indeed. Unfortunately my lead was soon to be relinquished to my co-driver. Jon's consistency paid off with a first place finish for him. Tim Herron was threatening all day, but had trouble putting together a clean run. In the end, the yaketysaxracing.com M3 finished 1st and 2nd at the guidance of Jon and me, respectively.
